Minor Pentatonic Scale

This is a very common scale it is used alot in rock and blues songs. WHEN you start guitar lessons this is one of the first things your teacher will cover with you. The way this scale works is abit complicated in how it is put together so I am going to show you a more simple way to learn it.

The image above will not make any sense to you. This is the A minor pentatonic scale. All of the blue circles represent the notes that can be played in the A minor pentatonic scale. A good way to learn this is to learn the 5 modes of the minor pentatonic scale.

The pictures below are the modes of the minor pentatonic scale see if you can find them on the image above and then have a go at playing them. The modes shown are for F so if you play these modes you will be playing in F. Try and see how the modes work and when you figure it out try playing them.

These are the five modes for the minor pentatonic scale. These are in position for the F minor pentatonic scale. See if you can find the modes on the A minor pentatonic scale image and then see if you can see how the modes work.

You will not understand how the scale is made but if you can learn the modes that will be a good start. <

Try and figure out how the modes work and then have a go at playing in E.A.D.C etc. Many blues and rock songs use the minor pentatonic scale so its not only an easy scale to learn it is an important one. /tr>
